(just to let you know, some of the pictures from Oct. 20 and on may be a bit fuzzy or mis-centered or crooked.  The LCD on my camera cracked, so I have to take the pictures blindly. Yay, me and electronics, woops!)

A Refreshing Visit...

Hazel:  My loving dad came to visit me in Taiwan from October 21-23!  He was excited to see the ministry that he's been praying for, and to see God's handiwork that's so evident at EBCT.  He was such an encouragement to me and to EBCT, and I praise God for giving him the chance to drop by Taiwan amidst his busy business-trip schedule.  We got to ride up the world's fastest elevator to the top of Taipei 101, visit the Chang Kai Shek memorial, and eat some reeeeal good hot pot.  I felt extremely blessed this weekend.

my dad and me: on the 91st floor outdoor observatory of Taipei 101 - it was super windy

Hot pot:  3 different soups: sweating-bullets-spicy, kim-chee jjigae, and regular

Hazel, excited to start eating.  Woohoo!

So McDonald's out here in Taipei is now serving bul-go-gi rice-patty burgers.  Crazy, huh?!  It was extremely good.

Seeing my dad off at the airport.  Thanks for the great trip, dad! =)

eating dinner after Saturday night Bible Study (October 22, 2005)...   Lisa, Hazel, and Kristin at one of our favorite Japanese Curry places... eating... GREEN ORANGES!  (Oxymoronic, eh?) Yummmm...  Seriously, the Taiwanese people know how to do fruits.

!!! Penguin Party !!!

October 24, 2005

Mondays are supposed to be Ben and Dennis' Monday Fundays, a day for rest and relaxation after a full week of ministry.  However, these guys often need to be prodded to let loose!  So in an effort to bring some good old-fashioned fun to the apartment, Krazel planned a PENGUIN PARTY to celebrate the coming of Winter (well, that was the only reason we could come up with.  But honestly, do we need a reason to get our penguin groove on?)  The party was a success.  We decorated penguin-shaped suagr cookies, watched a cheesy Chinese version of "March of the Penguins", ate shaved ice (you know, SNOW!) and turned down the air conditioner really low so that the atmosphere was chilly, just like the brisk arctic.  Krazel's most random yet HILARIOUS night so far!!!

Decorating penguin cookies with nutella, vanilla frosting, M&M's, Oreos, bananas, and pineapples.

sad clown penguin (a la Alexis)

Our new brother in Christ, Justin, getting in the penguin spirit.  We thought he was kidding when he promised to show up in a penguin suit...  But, a man of his word, Justin hand-crafted this penguin outfit using construction paper (the buttons were cut out!) and shoelaces.  Side note: the pink converses were Kristin's, not his.

The three penguins among the flock.  Jenn Liao, Justin, and Kristin.  Best Dressed goes to... Justin!

back row: Alexis, Dennis, Scott.  front row: JennLiao, Justin, Kristin, Hazel.  As you can see, Dennis and Scott weren't too keen on penguin festivity.  sidenote: Hazel's shirt says "One by one, the penguins steal my sanity" and she has penguin earrings on.

The penguin flocks looks on warily as a green giant human approaches.  Not to fear, Dennis is clearly harmless.

Some Puritan Prayers...

O Thou Most High,
It becomes me to be low in Thy presence.
I am nothing compared with Thee
I possess not the rank and power of angels,
But Thou hast made me what I am,
        And placed me where I am;
Help me to acquiesce in Thy sovereign pleasure.
I thank Thee that in the embryo state of my endless being
   I am capable by grace of improvement;
That I can bear Thy image
Not by submissiveness, but by design,
And can work with Thee and advance Thy cause and glory.

O Living God,
I bless Thee that I see the worst of my heart as well as the best of it,
That I can sorrow for those sins that carry me from Thee,
That it is Thy deep and dear mercy to threaten punishment so that I may return, pray, live.
My sin is to look on my faults and be discouraged,
Or to look on my good and be puffed up.
I fall short of Thy glory every day by spending hours unprofitably,
By thinking that the things I do are good,
When they are not done to Thy end,
Not spring from the rules of Thy Word.
My sin is to fear what never will be; I forget to submit to Thy will and fail to be quiet there.
But Scripture teaches me that Thy active will
Reveals a steadfast purpose on my behalf,
And this quietens my soul, and makes me love Thee.

KRAZEL's Home Sweet Home

"But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord."    Joshua 24:15b

Stairway up to the 9th floor apartment.  Doesn't look too promising yet, huh?  Just you wait and see!  Prepare to be amazed by God's gracious provisions for Krazel!

On the left half of the room, you will find Kristin's finely arranged collage of pictures hanging above her desk.  The closets (carried up 9 floors by Scott and Dennis), fit snugly into the wall.  Kristin's flowery duvet gives the room a frgrant and homey touch.

Alexis, our third roommate for half the week, sleeps snugly between our two beds.  The heavy mirror hangs precariously on one nail above her mattress.

On the right side of the room, you will find Hazel's bed and desk.  Not much to say here...  Oh, there's an air conditioner, woohoo!

Our beautifully adorned kitchen, with a dish rack, water boiler, silverware, and all.  Yep, even a shoe rack!

The bathroom - clean and neat.  Yes, the tiles are actually white!

The first pink thing that Hazel ever bought on her own accord.  The dried fruits and nuts on the left serve as munchies for our visitors, and the coffee set on the right has been very integral in our accountability meetings.

... and lots of candles... icing on the cake.

God's Gracious Blessings...

Bless the Lord, o my soul,
And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
Bless the Lord, o my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:
    Who forgives all your iniquities,
    Who heals all your diseases,
Who redeems your life from destruction,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tener mercies,
Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

Welcome Night! (September 30, 2005)

Kristin, excited to scare her first unsuspecting victim.

Overtaken by shock and fear, the first victim Alexis laughs lysterically.

"Yup, you got me", says Ben.

Feigned fear.  Dennis is unbreakable.

Using our leader as a portable umbrella rack.  Thanks Ben! (On our way to YoYuan's home for family outreach - October 9, 2005)

"Would you like some tasty, mouth-watering WeCare desserts?"

WeCare... they really do care.  back plate: Tiramisu, Creme Brulee, Fruit Tart.  front plate: Lemon Chiffon, Black Forest Cake, Caramel Custard.

Pigging out.

The sign that the boys came home to one night.  After an adventurous chase around the living room, we had trapped a roach (about 2 inches big) in the hallway.

"ROACH  --> Please kill it.  Thanks."

Thanks, JennJeon, for the carboard tube you used to send EBCB's EBCT 2yr anniversary gift.  It really came in handy.

"ginormous roach -->"

At last, the culprit has kicked the bucket (after about half a can of raid was poured on it).  (compare size to Hazel's hand)
